Autumn 1: week 4

We have had another great week in reception. This week our theme has been 'my hands'. We had some excellent show and tell items displaying lots of things we do with our hands.

In RE we painted our hand models showing that we are all precious to God:

We also used the netbook computers to create a park scene showing how we can show love towards others.

In Maths we practised counting and ordering numbers to 10 and 20, which will be reflected in your child's homework book this week.

In Literacy we wrote words to describe different textures using our own 'texture books' we thought about the initial sounds and some of the remaining sounds in words. We also had some help from word mats.

During phonics we have been continuing to blend letter sounds to read CVC words. The children are doing very well and are enthused by their achievements.

In PE we have been practising our dance routine called 'At the Park' we have sequenced together different movements representing being on a slide and the monkey bars.

Here are some other things we have got up to this week:

Preview of learning for next week:

In Maths we will be looking at 2D shapes and position.

In Literacy and Understanding the World we will be looking at the book 'Handa's Surprise'. We will also discuss our school Harvest fast day on Friday.

I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.

Autumn 1: week 2

The children have successfully completed their first full week in reception! They are all settling in very well and learning our daily routines.

This week has been a particularly busy week, which has highlighted just how well the children are all adapting to whole school events and expectations.

We enjoyed a lovely Mass on Tuesday where we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the school. We also visited the field to release balloons and have some cake and squash:

We also drew designs for three Jesse trees commemorating our school:

Autumn 1: week 3

We have had another enjoyable week in reception. The children are truly getting into the swing of reception life.

Our theme for the week has been 'My Family.' We shared some lovely family photos and we all got to know each other and what we love doing with our families.

During phonics we have learnt several new letter sounds  and how to form the letters, we will  send home phonics books with the songs and actions included for you to practise at home.

During literacy we wrote about what we enjoy doing with our families. We focused on writing the initial sounds of words.

During maths we practised counting to 10 and 20 and helped 'Muddles' the puppet with his counting on numerous occasions,

In RE we used our names as part of a prayer and asked God to take care of each of us. We then made hand prints using salt dough and carved our names.

Here are some other things we have got up to this week:

Preview of learning for next week:

Next week in literacy and understanding the world will be investigating and writing about how we use our hands.

In maths we will be ordering numbers to 10 and 20.

The children have brought home their first piece of homework today. As previously mentioned, please return this to the homework box outside the classroom on Tuesdays.

I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Welcome to the Reception class blog!

The children have settled in very well and they are beginning to learn all about reception.

We have explored our new classroom and we are learning our new routines. The children all did very well at lunch time.

We also had a great first full length day today. We went into our first assembly in the morning and we had an RE lesson in the afternoon learning about how we are all precious to God.

Here are a few things we have got up to this week:

Next Wednesday at 2.45p.m. is the reception parent meeting, which will be situated in the reception classroom.  I will give information on the term and year ahead, alongside answering any questions you might have.

Once again, well done to all the children for their first few days in reception. I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable weekend.
