Summer 1: week 5

We have had a lovely final week to end this half term. We have concluded our minibeasts topic by looking at our favourite minibeasts. We made our own non fiction minibeast pages:

In maths we revisited money. We looked at all coins from 1 pence to £2. We combined totals by counting on in 1s, 2s, 5s or 10s:

In RE we began our new topic 'Friends' We made friendship chains by drawing ourselves using mirrors.

In PE we finished our work using the parachute, we concluded by trying to control a beach ball using the 'wave' and 'jerk' motion. Here are some other things we got up to this week:

We hope you all have an enjoyable and restful half term!

Summer 1: week 4

This week we enjoyed looking at several minibeast stories, particularly during show and tell time.
In Literacy we focused our attention on 'The bad tempered ladybird'. We wrote some ladybird conversations in speech bubbles about how to be a 'friendly ladybird'. We also used this book during maths as we studied the miniature clocks in the story and made our own 'bad tempered ladybird clocks'. Additionally, we explored the days of the week and months of the year.

In Understanding the World we looked at how we affect the environment and how this can affect minibeasts. On Friday we discovered we had a special visitor which had crawled into our classroom! A 'common newt' unexpectedly joined us during a phonics lesson and we all thoroughly enjoyed studying it and learning about this new creature:

Here are some other things we got up to this week:

We look forward to seeing you all next week and the children are looking forward to sharing their learning journals with you each morning. Have a lovely weekend.

Summer 1: week 3

This week we have enjoyed looking at minibeasts with legs, particularly spiders!

In Literacy we listened to the story 'The boy who was afraid of spider' and 'Incy Wincy Spider'
and we realised that spiders aren't that scary. We made our own spider models and wrote a descriptive sentence:

In maths we revisited doubling and halving. We explored this using numicon, play dough and sharing hoops.

In RE we looked at Pentecost, we continued to make windmills to represent the wind of the Holy Spirit. We then made our own blow paint fire pictures with accompanying quotes to symbolise the Holy Spirit:

On Friday we talked about the Nepal Earthquake. Thank you for all your kind donations:

Here are some other things we got up this week:

Next week in maths we will be looking at time. In literacy we will look at minibeast stories.
Please also find a sign up sheet on the classroom window to arrange looking at learning journals.

Enjoy your weekends!

In Understanding the World we went seaching for worms to put in our own wormery. We will monitor the changes that occur over the next few weeks.

In maths we focused on addition and subtraction. We particularly enjoyed taking part in the Happy Puzzle Company workshop with year 1:

In PE we conitnued to enjoy using the parachute. We worked together to control moving a ball and height of the parachute. During music we put movement to music and performed a caterpillar dance.

In RE we began learning about Pentecost and created out own windmills symbolising the Holy Spirit.

Here are some other things we got up to this week:
