Settling into Reception and School Life

Our First few weeks in Reception

Wow! Where have the first few weeks of school gone.
All the children and staff have settled into the routines of school life. We have been enjoying our topic All About Me , and finding out about our different families.
If your child has not yet bought a family photograph into school , please could you send one in.

The children have been enjoying PE sessions and are trying hard with their buttons. Please encourage your children to recognise their name on their personal belongings as this will help your children to locate their own clothing , when they are changing.

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning how to measure using our hands and feet. Next week in class we will be looking at patterns and repeating patterns in maths.

Our book of the week this week is Hands Are Not For Hitting. Please encourage your children to think of good things we can do with our hands and also talk about how to make situations better when we might have used our hands in the wrong way.

Over the course of the next few weeks we are going to be looking at the story , Handa's Surprise and talking about different foods from around the world.

Welcome to Reception !

Welcome to the  Reception Class Blog 2016-2017

I would like to welcome you all to a new school year.
Your children have settled well into the routines of school life and expectations. It was lovely to meet so many of you at the parents meeting this afternoon.

I hope you will enjoy finding out about what your child has been exploring and learning  at school.  They are all settled now and adapting to the school's routines and boundaries. We started  the term with Mass celebrated  by Father Michael which was truly moving and the children responded well.

Your children have also enjoyed taking part in their first PE lesson , and enjoyed playing with the parachute. Please encourage your children to practise getting changed independently, as well as practising how to use buttons. This will help enable the children to spend more time enjoying PE.

Our topic for the first half term will be All About Me. After the half term holidays, our topic will be Celebrations and Festivals.

Our book of the week for the week beginning the 12th of September is Once There Were Giants in My House.

Our book of the week for week beginning the 19th of September is Alfie's Feet.

We would also like to ask for a small contribution of £10:00  for the year , to go towards buying items needed for cookery.

A copy of the lunch menu will be sent home with your child on Monday 12th September.
The dinner choice for Monday 12th September is as follows :
  • Red band - Pork  strip filled Yorkshire pudding.
  • Green band - Sweet potato and cheese slice.
Please enjoy a lovely weekend and congratulate your children for completing their first week at school.
