We have been having lots of fun in Reception over the past few weeks. We have been enjoying taking part in daily phonics lessons , where we have been learning new letter sounds and learning how to form our letters. We have also been practising segmenting sounds and then blending them together to help us read new words.
In our maths lessons we have been working hard to recognise numbers to 20 and working out addition problems using numbers to 10 and 20. Below are some pictures from some maths lessons we have had with Mrs Stocks, where we have been learning about long and short. Some us sorted objects , made playdough snakes and made cheese straws to help us understand this. We then sorted the whole class in order from shortest to highest and are going to be working on sorting our family in order from shortest person to the tallest person.
Next week in class we are going to be thinking about how we use our ears to help us hear and will be going on a listening walk around the school ground and writing about what we hear.
Next Friday it will be Red groups turn to show and tell and if your child could bring in something to do with their family. Please ask Reception staff if you are unsure of your child's group. Linking back to our family , could you all please send in a named photograph of your child with their family which will be used for class display.
Thank you for your continued support with your child's learning and have a lovely weekend
It has been lovely getting to know your children of the course over the past week and it was great to meet so many of you at the parents information meeting on Friday.
The children have made a great start to life in Reception and are settling well into the class routines. They have been enjoying having their school dinners and packed lunches and we would encourage you to help them practice cutting up their food. A question was raised in the parents meeting asking what would happen if a child was not eating. I would be told by one of the dinner ladies and would then speak to you.
The children are learning which groups they are in and we would encourage you to help them practise recognising their own name as this will then help them to find their busy fingers activities in the morning.
Over the course of the next few weeks we are going to be learning about ourselves and our senses.
I am looking forward to getting to know you all over the course of the year and would encourage you to come and speak to me if you have any worries or concerns.
